Tomato Nutrition

Tomatoes have a high nutrient requirement and perform best when they receive an ample supply of both macro and micronutrients throughout the growing season. To ensure optimal tomato nutrition, it is important to provide sufficient nutrients using both basal and foliar fertilizer applications.

Basal fertilizers such as DAP are primarily absorbed by the plant through its roots. On the other hand, foliar fertilizers like OPTIMIZER are taken up by the tomato plant through its leaves.

FERTILIZER APPLICATION SCHEDULE

Early growth stage

This pertains to the phase when the crop is in the nursery, recently transplanted, and just before it enters a period of vigorous growth.

  • During the seedling stage in the nursery, it is crucial to ensure proper management. To facilitate the breaking of seed dormancy, promote even germination, and supply nutrients to the young plants, the soil should be drenched with OPTIMIZER at a rate of 20ml per 20 liters of water.
  • To mitigate the shock caused by transplanting, seedlings should be sprayed with OPTIMIZER at a rate of 10ml per 20 liters of water, 1-2 days prior to transplantation.
  • In the second week after transplantation, newly transplanted seedlings should be sprayed with either GOLDCHANCE SUPER START at a rate of 50g per 20 liters of water, or LAVENDER at a rate of 20ml per 20 liters of water, or PLANT SOUL at a rate of 40ml per 20 liters of water. These treatments provide essential nutrients, including phosphorus, which are crucial for root development and early crop growth.
  • At this stage of development, it is advisable to apply DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) to the soil, as it is a significant source of phosphorus. The application of manure may also be necessary, depending on the organic matter levels in the soil.

Vegetative growth stage

This corresponds to the phase when the plant initiates photosynthesis and experiences active growth. It is during this period that the plant accumulates adequate resources to support flowering and fruit development.

  • To encourage vegetative growth, it is recommended to spray the crop with either GOLDCHANCE SUPER GROWTH at a rate of 50g per 20 liters of water or LAVENDER at a rate of 20ml per 20 liters of water. These products contain nitrogen, as well as other elements such as magnesium and iron.
  • Top dressing the crop with CAN (Calcium Ammonium Nitrate) is crucial during this stage. Additionally, other basal fertilizers like N.P.K 23.23.0 can be applied to ensure that the crop receives sufficient amounts of nitrogen, along with other essential elements.

Reproduction stage

During this stage, the crop enters the flowering and subsequent fruiting phase.

At this stage, the plant has a higher demand for potassium compared to other elements. Therefore, it is recommended to spray the crop with GOLDCHANCE SUPER FLOWERS & FRUITS at a rate of 50g per 20 liters of water, or DIMIPHITE at a rate of 20ml per 20 liters of water, or LEGENDARY at a rate of 40ml per 20 liters of water. These products provide an adequate supply of potassium.

To prevent Blossom End Rot, it is advisable to spray the crop with FERRARI GOLD at a rate of 60ml per 20 liters of water before the fruits start forming. This application ensures that the crop receives sufficient calcium.

Spraying VITABOR GOLD at a rate of 30ml per 20 liters of water also enhances the fruit’s quality and size.

For effective protection against a wide range of infections, BIODISTINCTION XTRA 700CS can be used.

It is important to apply basal fertilizers such as N.P.K 17.17.17.

Here are some tips:

  • Avoid excessive nitrogen supply as it may result in lush, green tomato plants with few fruits.
  • Potassium is essential throughout the growth season as it helps maintain ionic balance and water status in the plant. However, excessive potassium can restrict the uptake of other elements.
  • OPTIMIZER can be sprayed at any stage of growth and development to enhance the crop’s immunity, manage stress, and improve overall performance.
  • Regular foliar sprays should be done on a weekly basis while monitoring the crop’s performance.
  • When applying basal fertilizers and manure, mix them with HUMIPOWER at a rate of 1kg Humipower into 50kg of fertilizer or 1 ton of manure. Humipower improves nutrient uptake, stimulates growth, and enhances soil structure, among other benefits.
  • When conducting foliar sprays, always mix the foliar feed with INTEGRA at a rate of 3ml per 20 liters of water. INTEGRA acts as a sticker, spreader, and penetrant, improving the absorption of fertilizers by the crop’s foliage.
  • Fertilizers should be applied at the appropriate time and rate, taking into account the growth stage of the crop.
